Furniture Matters helps to create homes for those in need

At Furniture Matters, we’re working with Blackpool Coastal Housing to prepare vacant properties following the government’s recent call for at risk groups to be housed as a matter of urgency.

As part of this directive, a number of properties are being repurposed to provide housing for vulnerable individuals requiring a safe space to self-isolate during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week, staff from Furniture Matters have been delivering furniture, white goods and bedding to the properties and helping with the set up and installation.

The empty homes will offer essential accommodation and give people a safe and secure place to stay.

Steph Buchanan, Manager of Furniture Matters said: “We are always here to support our communities, and now more than ever they need our help. These properties will be a lifeline for those in need, and in these uncertain times, provide a safe place for people to call home. We will continue to do everything we can, working together to make a real difference.” Steph Buchanan, Manager of Furniture Matters

Blackpool Coastal Housing, Chief Exec John Donnellon said of the project ‘As Blackpool’s largest social housing provider we have been supporting the Council to ensure that the Government’s directive of ensuring housing provision for the most vulnerable across the town is robust. As a community we’re trying to protect our vulnerable residents while operating strictly under Government guidelines on social distancing and safe working to support the containment of Covid-19. Our partnership with Furniture Matters has been fundamental to providing necessary accommodation for some of our most vulnerable to keep safe during the Coronavirus pandemic.’

Furniture Matters are currently supporting similar initiatives across Lancashire. While our stores are currently closed, we are still open for business via online shopping outlets on Facebook and eBay.
